Question 1 / 100

Given below are four jumbled sentences. Select the option that gives their correct order.

A. I found he was an old sailor and knew all the seafaring men in Bristol.

B. So, I engaged him on the spot to be the ship's cook but he proved to be much more.

C. He had lost his health ashore and wanted a berth as cook to get to the sea again.

D. I was standing on the dock when by accident I fell in talk with a stranger.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. DACB.

  • Statement D is independent and introduces the theme of the paragraph "Talk with a stranger" hence, it will be the opening statement.
  • Statement A gives information about "stranger" as a sailer hence, A will come after D.
  • Statement B starts with "SO" which shows the conclusion hence, B will come at the end of the statement.
  • Finally, C will come before B.
  • Now we have the final arrangement i.e. DACB.

The chosen option is the same as the final arrangement hence, it will be correct.

Some common rules that help while solving the Para Jumbles:-

  1. Read the paragraph carefully and try to comprehend the idea or theme of the paragraph and eliminate the irrelevant options.
  2. Try to identify the opening (Independent statement) and closing statement (Concluding statement).
  3. Try to identify the mandatory pairs. Two sentences can be connected through various connectors.
