If the male population above the proverty line for State B is 2.5 millions, then what is the total population of state B?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e 8 1/3 million

The ratio of male and female in state B above poverty = 2 : 3

The number of males in state B above poverty = 2.5 million

⇒ The number of females in state B above poverty = 2.5 × (3/2)

⇒ 3.75 million

Total population of state B above poverty = 3.75 + 2.5

⇒ 6.25 million

Total population of state B = 6.25 × (100/75)

⇒ 8.33 million or 8 1/3 million
