Question 1 / 90

The average of runs scored by a player in 22 innings is 40 runs. How many runs should he score in the 23rd innings so that his average is increased by 6 runs?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option  1 i.e 178 runs.

Average after 22 innings = 40

Total runs in 22 innings = 22 × 40 = 880

New average after 23 innings = 40 + 6 = 46

Total runs needed for 23 innings = 23 × 46 = 1058

Runs needed in 23rd innings = 1058 − 880 = 178
