What is the area (in cm²) of a circle circumscribing a triangle whose sides are 28 cm, 45 cm and 53 cm?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 702141\over4π.

a = 28 cm , b = 45 cm , c = 53 cm

ΔR = abc4Δ\frac{abc}{4\Delta}

Heron’s formula :

s=a+b+c2=28+45+532=1262=63s = \frac{a + b + c}{2} = \frac{28 + 45 + 53}{2} = \frac{126}{2} = 63

Δ=s(s−a)(s−b)(s−c)=63(63−28)(63−45)(63−53)=63⋅35⋅18⋅10\Delta = \sqrt{s(s - a)(s - b)(s - c)} = \sqrt{63(63 - 28)(63 - 45)(63 - 53)} = \sqrt{63 \cdot 35 \cdot 18 \cdot 10}

Δ=63⋅35⋅18⋅10=396900=630\Delta = \sqrt{63 \cdot 35 \cdot 18 \cdot 10} = \sqrt{396900} = 630 cm²

R = abc4Δ=28⋅45⋅534⋅630\frac{abc}{4\Delta} = \frac{28 \cdot 45 \cdot 53}{4 \cdot 630}

R = 667802520=26.5\frac{66780}{2520} = 26.5  cm

Area = πR2=π⋅(26.5)2=π⋅702.25\pi R^2 = \pi \cdot (26.5)^2 = \pi \cdot 702.25 ≈70214π\approx702\frac{1}{4}\pi
