The marked price of a washing machine is 18500. A dealer allows two successive discounts of 20% and x% on the marked price and sells it for ₹14060. What is the value of x?

The correct answer is Option 2 i.e. 5

Marked Price = ₹18500
After 20% discount: 18500 × 0.80 = 14800

Second discount :

14800×(1−x100)=14060\quad 14800 \times \left(1 - \frac{x}{100}\right) = 14060

⇒1−x100=1406014800=0.95⇒x100=0.05⇒x=5%\Rightarrow 1 - \frac{x}{100} = \frac{14060}{14800} = 0.95 \Rightarrow \frac{x}{100} = 0.05 \Rightarrow x = 5\%
