SSC CGL Tier II - Quant - 3 Feb 2022 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q11

The curved surface area of a right circular cone is 2310 cm2 and its radius is 21 cm. If its radius is increased by 100% and height is reduced by 50%, then its capacity (in liters) will be (correct to one decimal place):

(Take π=227\pi=\frac{22}{7})

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 25.9

πrl\pi rl = 2310 and r = 21 cm.

22/7 × 21 × l = 2310

l = 35 cm.

The height of the circular cone = l2−r2\sqrt{l^2 - r^2}

h = 352−212\sqrt{35^2 - 21^2}

h = 28 cm.

If its radius is increased by 100% and height is reduced by 50% then,

r = 42cm and h = 14 cm.

Volume of cone = 13πr2h\frac{1}{3}\pi r^2h

Volume of the cone = 1/3 × 22/7 × 42 × 42 × 14 = 25872 cm3.

One knows that,

1 cm3 = 1 ml

25872 cm3 = 25872/1000 = 25.872 l

= 25.9 liters.
