The compound interest on ₹10,000 at 20% per annum is ₹4,641. If the compounding is done half-yearly, then for how many years was the sum invested?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 2.

Given that

C.I on 10000 at 20% per annum compounded half yearly = 4641

Hence the total amount = 14641

Formula used

Amount = P (1 + R/2100\frac{R/2}{100})2n

Substituting the value we get

⇒ 14641 = 10000(1 + 10/100)2n

Solving for n we get

⇒ 121100\frac{121}{100} =(1110\frac{11}{10})n

Hence n = 2

Hence, the sum was invested for 2 years.
