The average of six numbers A, B, C, D, E and F is 58. If the first number A is two-fifth of the sum of B and C, and is also equal to three-fourth of the sum of D, E and F, then, what is the value of the sum of B and C?
Show answer & explanation
Correct answer: A
Explanation
The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 180
Average of A, B, C, D, E and F is 58.
So,
A + B + C + D + E + F = 58 × 6 = 348.......1
We have given,
A = 2/5 (B + C)
B + C = 5A/2
and
A = 3/4 (D + E + F)
(D + E + F) = 4A/3
Put these values in equation 1.
A + (5A/2) + 4A/3 = 348
A = 348 × 6/29 = 72
Value of B + C = 5A/2 = 5 × 72/2 = 180
