Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

Correct Answer is option 2 i.e. 53

Understanding

Application

Average age = sum of ages of all persons/number of persons

Given

Average age of 15 persons = 32 years

Let the ages of two persons are x and y

And

x – y = 9 ------- (I)

Sum of ages of 15 persons = 32 × 15 = 480

As given:

Average age of 17 persons = 32 + 3 = 35

Hence,

Sum of ages of 17 persons = 17 × 35 = 595

Now,

⇒ 480 + x + y = 595

⇒ x + y = 595 – 480

⇒ x + y = 115 ------- (II)

On adding (I) and (II) we get:

2x = 124

⇒ x = 62

And on subtracting (I) from (II):

⇒ y = 53

∴ The age of younger person = 53 years
