R targets to score 85% marks in exams. He scores 450 marks and misses the target by 35%. How much increment in percentage should be there in his scored marks to meet the target?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 70.

the Total Marks

Since R misses the target by 35%,

his actual percentage score = 85% − 35% = 50%

Thus, 450 marks correspond to 50% of the total marks.

Let the total marks = x

⇒ 50% of x = 450

⇒ 50100×x=450\frac{50}{100} \times x = 450

⇒ x = 450 × 50/100 = 900

R should score = 85% of 900 = 85100×900=765\frac{85}{100} \times 900 = 765

The increment needed = 765 − 450 = 315

The percentage increase in marks = 315450×100\frac{315}{450} \times 100

⇒ 710×100=70% \frac{7}{10} \times 100 = 70\%
