SSC CGL 2018 PYQ — Question 24

SSC CGL Tier II Quant - 17/02/2018 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q24

In the given figure, ABCD is a square whose side is 4 cm. P is a point on the side AD. What is the minimum value (in cm) of 2(BP + CP)?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 1 i.e. 8√5.

CD = 4 cm

It will be minimum when P is the midpoint of DA

⇒ AP = PD = 2 cm

So,

CP = √(16 + 4) = √20 = 2√5

And

BP = 2√5

Hence,

CP + BP = 4√5

2(CP + BP) = 8√5
