In the given figure, AB = 30 cm and CD = 24 cm. What is the value (in cm) of MN ?

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 18.

In the figure we can see;

x2 = r2 – 122

And x2 = R2 - 152

∴ r2 – 122 = R2 - 152

⇒ R2 - r2 = 225 – 144 = 81

In triangle POM;

R2 - r2 = PM2

⇒ PM2 = 81

⇒ PM = 9

∴ MN = 2 × PM = 18 cm.
