If the 9 - digit number 7x79251y8 is divided by 36, What is the value of ( 10x2 - 3y2) for the largest possible value of y ?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 298

Here 36 is a fraction of 9 x  4 so the rule for divisibility of 9 and 4 will be applied

for divisibility of 4, the last 2 digits of 7x79251y8 will be divisible by 4

so for the largest value of y = 8, 88 is divisible by 4

now, 7+x+7+9+2+5+1+8+8 it should be divisible by 9 if x = 7

so x= 7 & y = 8

 put this value in this equation ( 10x2 - 3y2) , we get (10 x 49 - 3 x 64 ) =  298
