If P(A∪B)=59,P(Aˉ∪Bˉ)=1327,P(A)=1118P(A \cup B) = \frac{5}{9}, P(\bar{A}\cup \bar{B})=\frac{13}{27}, P(A) = \frac{11}{18}, then the odds against event B are:

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 2925\frac{29}{25}.

Given that

P(A∪B)=59,P(Aˉ∪Bˉ)=1327,P(A)=1118P(A \cup B) = \frac{5}{9}, P(\bar{A}\cup \bar{B})=\frac{13}{27}, P(A) = \frac{11}{18}

Formula used

P(Aˉ∪Bˉ)P(\bar{A}\cup \bar{B}) = 1 - P(A∩B)P({A}∩{B})

P(A∪B)=P(A)+P(B)−P(A∩B)P(A \cup B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A ∩ B)

Substituting the values we get

P(A∩B)P({A}∩{B}) = 1 - 1327\frac{13}{27} = 1427\frac{14}{27}

Hence, P(B) = 59−1118+1427\frac{5}{9} - \frac{11}{18} + \frac{14}{27} = 2554\frac{25}{54}

Hence, P(Bˉ)P(\bar{B}) = 1 - 2554\frac{25}{54} =2954\frac{29}{54}

Hence, the odds against event B = P(Bˉ)P(\bar{B}) / P(B) = 2925\frac{29}{25}.
