SSC GD Const (English) - 22 Feb 2024 Shift 2 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q42

After giving 10 percent discount on an article there is still a profit of 10 percent. What will be the profit percentage when no discount is given

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 22.22 percentage.

the cost price of the article =  CP

After the 10% discount:

 the marked price is ( MP ), the selling price is ( 0.9MP ).

⇒ 0.9M = 1.1C

The profit in this case would be the difference between the selling price and the cost price, which is( MP - CP ).

Profit Percentage =  ( MP - CP) / (CP) × 100

From the equation ( 0.9MP = 1.1CP), solve for ( MP ):

MP = (1.1CP) / (0.9) = (11CP) / (9)

Profit Percentage = (11CP9−CP)CP×100\frac{\left(\frac{11CP}{9} - CP\right)}{CP} \times 100

Profit Percentage = (11CP9−9CP9)CP×100=2CP9CP×100=29×100≈22.22%\frac{\left(\frac{11CP}{9} - \frac{9CP}{9}\right)}{CP} \times 100 = \frac{\frac{2CP}{9}}{CP} \times 100 = \frac{2}{9} \times 100 \approx 22.22\%

The profit percentage when no discount is given is 22.22%.
