A sum of ₹x is divided between A, B, C and D such that the ratio of the shares of A and B is 4 : 5, that of B and C is 3 : 4 and that of C and D is 5 : 7. If the difference between the shares of B and D is ₹3,276, then the value of x is:

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 18,900.

A combined ratio A : B : C : D

A : B = 4 : 5 And B : C = 3 : 4

From A : B = 4 : 5 , From B : C = 3 : 4

A : B = 4 × 3 : 5 × 3 = 12 : 154

B : C = 3 × 5 : 4 × 5 = 15 : 203

A : B : C = 12 : 15 : 20

C : D = 5 : 7

C = 20 with C = 5 ⇒ multiply by 4:

C : D = 5 × 4 : 7 × 4 = 20 : 28

A : B : C : D = 12 : 15 : 20 : 28

B's share = 15k , D's share = 28k

28k−15k=13k=3276⇒k=327613=₹25228k - 15k = 13k = 3276 \Rightarrow k = \frac{3276}{13} = ₹252

Total ratio units = 12 + 15 + 20 + 28 = 75

x = 75k = 75 × 252 = ₹18,900
