A kite is flying at a height of 138 m above the ground. It is attached to a string  inclined at 45° to the horizontal. What is the approximate length (in m) of the string?

The correct answer is Option 4 i.e. 195.

Explanation:

According to the given question,

Since the stirng is inclined at 45°.

tan450=heightbasetan45^0 = {height \over base} = 1=138base1 = {138\over base} 

⇒ base = 138 m

Now, applying pythagoras theorem, x2 = 1382 + 1382 

⇒ x2 = 19044 + 19044

⇒ x = 195

Hence the required answer is 195m.
