A contractor decided to complete a work in 80 days and employed 60 men at the beginning and 20 men additionally after 20 days and got the work completed as per schedule. If he had not employed the additional men, how many extra days would he have needed to complete the work (round off to the nearest integer)?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 2 i.e. 20 days.

Given:

Time taken to complete the work = 80 days

Number of men worked for 20 days = 60

Number of men worked after 20 days = 80

Concept Used:

(Men1×efficiency1×day1wok1)=(Men2×efficiency2×day2wok2)(Men_1 \times efficiency_1 \times {day_1 \over wok_1}) =(Men_2 \times efficiency_2 \times {day_2 \over wok_2})

Explanation:

After 20 days, the remaining work is don by 80 men in 65 days.

Now, 60 men will complete this work in 48.75 = 49 days

The extra days needed to complete the work = 80 - (40 + 20) =20days.
