SSC CGL - 05 Dec 2022 - Shift 2 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q70

The length of the side of a cube is 4.2 cm. What is the volume of the largest sphere that can be taken out of the cube?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 3 i.e. 38.80 cm3

Given:

Length of cube = 4.2 cm

Concept USed:

If a sphere is taken out of a cube, side of cube = diameter of sphere

Volume of sphere = 43πr3{4 \over 3} \pi r^3

Explanation:

Let the radius of sphere be r.

Now diameter of sphere = side of cube

⇒ diameter of sphere = 4.2 ⇒ r = diameter/2 = 2.1 cm

Now, volume of sphere = 43×227×(2.1)3{4 \over 3} \times {22 \over 7} \times (2.1)^3 = 38.80

Hence the volume of the sphere is 38.80 cm3.
