X is 35% less than Y. Z is 40% more than the sum of X and Y. By what percent is Z more than two times X (correct to one decimal place)?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 77.7%.

X = Y - 35%  of  Y = 100 - 35 = 65

X = 65 , Y = 100 , X + Y = 165

Z = X + Y + 40%  of  (X + Y) = 165 + 0.40  × 165 = 165 + 66 = 231

X = 65

2X = 2 ×  65 = 130

Difference = 231 - 130 = 101

Percentage more = (101130)×100=77.69% \left( \frac{101}{130} \right) \times 100 = 77.69\%  or  77.7% more  (rounded to 1 decimal place)
