Two offers were being made to Swaroop for a watch with a marked price of ₹1,600. Either two successive discounts of 20%, or two discounts of 30% and 10% after each other is offered. If Swaroop opted for the better plan over the other, how much more must he have saved ?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. ₹16.

Given that

Marked price = 1600

Successive discount of x percent = -x -x + x2 / 100

successive discounts of 20% = -20 -20 + 4 = -36%

Hence, the price now = 64100\frac{64}{100} × 1600 = 1024

After 2 discounts of 30 and 10% , the net discount = -30 -10 + 3 = -37%

Hence, the price now = 63100\frac{63}{100} × 1600 = 1008

The amount saved = 1024 - 1008 = 16

Hence,  if Swaroop opted for the better plan over the other he must have saved ₹16.
