Two chords, AB and CD, are equal in length and are at a distance of 10 cm from the center of a circle. If the radius is 26 cm, what is the length of AB?

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 48 cm.

Radius = 26 cm

Distance from center to chord = 10 cm

Half of AB = (r2−d2)\sqrt{(r^2 − d^2)}

⇒ (262−102)\sqrt{(26^2 − 10^2)}

⇒ (676−100)\sqrt{(676 − 100)} = √576 = 24

So, AB = 2 × 24 = 48 cm
