SSC CHSL 2021 PYQ — Question 59

SSC CHSL - 19 April 2021 - Shift 2 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q59

Trains A and B of lengths 329 m and 296 m, respectively, are running in opposite directions on parallel tracks, at the speeds of 85 km/h and 65 km/h, respectively. In what time (in seconds) will they cross each other?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 15

Concept USed:

When the trains are running in opposite directions, the relative speed = Sum of the individual speeds

Distance = speed × time

Explanation:

According to the given question,

Distance = 329 + 296 = 625 m

Now, relative speed = (85 + 65) = 150 km/hr ⇒ 150×518150 \times{5 \over 18} = 1253125 \over 3 m/sec

Now, Time taken to cross each other = 6251253{625 \over {125 \over 3}} = 5 × 3 = 15 sec.

Hence the required answer is 15 seconds.
