Three numbers are such that when the sum of any two of them is added to half of the third, the results are 210, 198, and 192 respectively. What is the average of the three numbers?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 80.

Let numbers be a, b, c

⇒ a + b + c2c\over2 = 210 ...(1)

⇒ b + c + a2a\over2 = 198 ...(2)

⇒ c + a + b2b\over2 = 192 ...(3)

Add eq (1) + (2) + (3)

⇒ (a + b + b + c + c + a ) + (a2a\over2 + b2b\over2 + c2c\over2) = 210 + 198 + 192

⇒ 2(a + b + c) + (a+b+c)2(a + b + c)\over2 = 600

⇒ 525\over2(a + b + c) = 600

⇒ a + b + c = 240

Average = 2403240\over3 = 80
