The ratio of three numbers is 14:56:13\frac{1}{4}:\frac{5}{6}:\frac{1}{3} respectively. If the sum of the number is 68, what is the value of 13\frac{1}{3} of the first number?

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 4.

Let the three numbers be x/4, 5x/6, and x/3

Given,

x/4 + 5x/6 + x/3 = 68

⇒ (3x + 10x + 4x)/12 = 68

⇒ 17x/12 = 68

⇒ x = 48

Thus, the first number = 48/4 = 12

Thus, 1/3 of this number = (1/3) × 12 = 4
