The ratio between male and female members in a club is 2 : 3. If the number of male members is increased by 200, the ratio becomes 5 : 6. How many female members are there in the club?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 1200.

Let the number of male and female members in the club be 2x and 3x respectively.

According to the given question,

Number of male members increases by 200, new number of male members = 2x + 200

Now, (2x+200)3x=56{(2x + 200)\over 3x} = {5 \over 6}

⇒ 6(2x + 200) = 5 × 3x

⇒ 12x + 1200 = 15x

⇒ 3x = 1200

Hence the number of female members in the club is 1200.
