The monthly salaries of Anil and Kumud are in the ratio of 19 : 17. If Anil and Kumud get a salary hike of Rs 2000 and Rs 1000, respectively, then the ratio of their salaries becomes 8 : 7. What is the present salary of Kumud (in rupees)?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 3 i.e. 34000.

The ratio of the monthly salaries of Anil and Kumud = 19x : 17x

Salary hikes of Anil and Kumud = Rs 2000 and Rs 1000

According to the question,

(19x + 2000)/(17x + 1000) = 8/7

⇒ 133x + 14000 = 136x + 8000

⇒ x = 2000

So, the salary of Kumud = 17 × 2000 = Rs 34,000
