The lengths of the three sides of a triangle are 19 cm, 25 cm and y cm. Which of the following options most accurately gives the possible values of ‘y’?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 6 < y < 44.

Given that, lengths of the sides of triangle are 19 cm, 25 cm and y cm.

The sum of the two sides of the triangle is always greater than the third side and the difference between the two sides of the triangle is always less than the third side.

According to the given question,

Sum of the two sides of the triangle = 19 + 25 = 44 cm

Difference between the two sides of the triangle = 25 - 19 = 6 cm

The measure of the third side will be 6 < y < 44
