SSC CHSL - 19 April 2021 - Shift 3 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q74

The length of the base of a triangle is 3 cm smaller than the length of its altitude. Its area is 104 cm2. What is the length of the base?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 4 i.e. 13 cm.

Let the length of the altitude = h cm

Given that,

The length of the base of a triangle = (h - 3) cm

Area of the triangle =  ½ * base * altitude = ½ * (h - 3) * h = 104

h2 - 3h = 208

h = 16 cm

The length of the base of a triangle = (h - 3) cm = 16 - 3 = 13 cm
