SSC CHSL - 16 April 2021 - Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q51

The length of the base of a right - angled triangle is 40 cm and its hypotenuse is 41 cm long. What is the area (in cm2) and perimeter (in cm), respectively?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 2 i.e. 180 and 90.

Given:

Base = 40 cm

Hypotenuse = 41 cm

Concept USed:

Pythagoras tyheorem, H2 = P2 + B2

Formula Used:

Area of triangle = ½ × Base × Height

Explanation:

The given triangle is a right angled triangle,

Using pythagoras theorem, 412 = P2 + 402

⇒ P2  = 1681 - 1600

⇒ P2  = 81

⇒ P = 9 cm

Now, perimeter of triangle = Sum of all three sides

Perimeter = 9 + 40 + 41 = 90 cm

And, Area = ½ × 40 × 9 = 180 cm2

HEnce the required answer is 180 and 90.
