SSC GD Constable (English) - 10th December 2021 Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q68

The distance between a man and a 230 m long train is 115 m. How much time (in seconds) will the train, which is running at a speed of 60 km/h, take to pass the man who is running at a speed of 9 km/h towards the train?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 18

Given:

Distance between man and train = 115 m

Length of train = 230 m

Speed of train = 60 km/h

Speed of man = 9 km/h

Formula used:

Speed = Distance/time        ---- (1)

Calculations:

Total distance = 230 + 115 = 345 m

Relative speed will be the sum of the speed of train and man

Relative speed = 60 + 9 = 69 km/h

Speed in m/s = 69 × (5/18) = 115/6 m/s

Required time taken = 345/(115/6)

= 18 seconds
