SSC CHSL 2020 PYQ — Question 55

SSC CHSL - 20th October 2020 - Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q55

The difference of two positive numbers is 1020. If 7.6% of the greater number is equal to 12.4% of the smaller number, then find the sum of the two numbers.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e 4250

Let the greater number be x and smaller number be y

It is given that x - y = 1020

⇒ (7.6/100) × x = (12.4/100) × y

⇒ x/y = 31/19

Let the numbers be 31z and 19z then,

⇒ x - y = 1020

⇒ 31z - 19z = 1020

⇒ 12z = 1020

⇒ z = 85

The sum of both numbers = x + y = 31z + 19z = 50z

⇒ 50 × 85 = 4250
