The average age of A, B and C is 20 years. Two years ago the sum of the ages of A and B was 6 more than that of C. Find the present age of C.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 4 i.e. 26 years.

The average age of A, B, and C = 20

Total age of A,B, C = Average age × Number of people = 20 × 3 = 60

⇒ A + B + C = 60 ....(1

According to the question -

⇒ (A - 2) + (B - 2) = (C - 2) + 6

⇒ A + B = C - 2 + 6 + 2 + 2

⇒ A + B = C + 8 ...(2

Putting value of (A + B) from eq(2 in eq(1 -

⇒ C + 8 + C = 60

⇒ 2C = 52

C = 26 years
