The areas of two similar triangles are 324 cm2 and 225 cm2. If the altitude of the smaller triangle is 10 cm, then the altitude of the bigger triangle in centimeters, is:

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e 12

Understanding

Given Area of both triangle = 324cm2 and 225cm2 and the altitude of the small triangle = 10 cm

We have to find the altitude of the bigger triangle

Application

We know that

area of bigger triangle/area of the small triangle = [One side of the bigger triangle/One side of the small triangle]2

⇒ 324/225 = [x/10]2

⇒ 324/225 = x2/100

⇒ 324 × 100/225 = x2

Now

⇒ 18 × 10/15 = x

⇒ 12 = x
