The area ofa trapezium shaped field is 1785 square feet. The distance between the two parallel sides is 35 feet and one of the parallel sides is 42 feet long. What is the length of the other parallel side?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 60 feet.

Area of trapezium = 1/2 × h × (a + b)

Area of field = 1785 square feet

Distance between two parallel sides = 35 feet

One side = 42 feet

Let the other side of the field be x feet

Now using the formula in equation (i)

Area = 1/2 × 35 × (42 + x)

⇒ 1785 = 35/2 × (42 + x)

⇒ 42 + x = 51 × 2

⇒ x = 102 - 42

⇒ x = 60.

Hence the required length of the side of the trapezium is 60 feet.
