SSC CGL 2024 PYQ — Question 56

SSC CGL - 11 Sep 2024 - Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q56

Solve the given set of three equations to get the value of the unknowns:

x + 2z = 3

x + 2y + 3z = 5

3x - 5z = -13

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 2 i.e. x = -1,y = 0,z = 2.

⇒ x + 2z = 3.....(1)

⇒ x + 2y + 3z = 5.....(2)

⇒ 3x - 5z = -13.....(3)

Solving eq 1 and 3

⇒ x + 2z = 3 [multiply eq by 3]

⇒ 3x - 5z = -13

On solving

⇒ 11z = 22

⇒ z = 2

put in eq 1

⇒ x = -1

On putting the value of x and z in eq 2

⇒ -1 + 2y + 6 = 5

⇒ 2y = 0

⇒ y = 0

Thus, the values of x, y, and z are -1, 0, and 2 respectively
