Riya could not decide between discount of 30% or two successive discounts of 25% and 5%, both given on shopping of Rs.3,840. What is the different between both the discounts?

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 2 i.e.Rs. 48.

Case 1 - 

Discount of 30% on ₹3,840 = 30100×3840 \frac{30}{100}\times 3840 = ₹1152

Case 2 - 

Successive discount of 25% and 5% = 25+5−(25×5100)25+5 - \left ( \frac{25\times 5}{100} \right ) = 28.75%

So,

Discount of 28.75% on ₹3,840 = 28.75100×3840 \frac{28.75}{100}\times 3840 = ₹1104

So, 

The difference in both the discounts = ₹1152 - ₹1104 = ₹48
