SSC CGL 2018 PYQ — Question 38

SSC CGL Tier II Quant - 17/02/2018 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q38

In the given figure, radius of a circle is 14√2 cm. PQRS is a square. EFGH, ABCD, WXYZ and LMNO are four identical squares. What is the total area (in cm²) of all the small squares ?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 125.44

Radius of the circle = 14√2 cm

So,

Diameter of the circle = 28√2 cm

And

Side of the larger square = 28√2/√2 = 28 cm

Let the side of smaller square be x.

x = (Length of diameter - length of a side)/2

= (28√2 - 28)/2

= 14√2 - 14

= 14(√2 - 1)

= 14 × 0.4 = 5.6

Area = x² = 31.36

Hence,

Area of 4 squares = 31.36 × 4 = 125.44
