In the following question, a sentence has been given in Direct/Indirect speech. Out of the four alternatives suggested, select the one which best expresses the same sentence in Indirect/Direct speech.

My sister said to me, "You didn't help me yesterday so I will not help you now."

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. My sister said to me that I had not helped her the day before so she would not help me then.

 

  1. As the reporting verb is in the past tense there will be a change in the tense of the reported speech.
  2. There will be no change in the reporting verb as there is no object after it.
  3. "simple past tense" will be changed into "past perfect tense".
  4. The inverted comma will be changed into "that".
  5. "now" will be changed into "then".
  6. As all the rules are followed by the chosen option it will be correct.
