In an election contested by two parties, party A secured 16 percent of the total votes more than Party B. If Party B got 25,200 votes and there were no invalid votes, by how many votes did Party B lose the election?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 9600.

Let's assume the total number of votes = x

Total number of votes received by Party B = 25200

Total number of votes received by Party A = 25200 + x × 16/100

Total votes = 25200 + 25200 + x × 16/100

x = 50400 + 0.16x

x - 0.16x = 50400

x = 50400/0.84 = 60000

So, total number of votes received by Party A = 60000 - 25200 = 34800

Difference = A - B = 34800 - 25200 = 9600
