SSC CGL 2020 PYQ — Question 63

SSC CGL Tier II - Quant - 18 Nov 2020 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q63

In a triangle ABC, P and Q are points on AB and AC, respectively, such that AP = 1 cm, PB = 3 cm, AQ = 1.5 cm, and CQ = 4.5 cm. If the area of △APQ is 12 cm2, then find the area of BPQC.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 180 cm2

In a triangle ABC,

AP/AB = 1/4 , AQ/AC = 1.5/6 = 1/4.

So one can say that, PQ || BC.

△\triangleAPQ is similar to △\triangleABC.

Area of △\triangleAPQ : Area of △\triangleABC = (1/4)2

12/ Area of △\triangleABC = 1/16

Area of △\triangleABC = 192

Area of BPQC = 192 - 12 = 180 cm2
