SSC CGL - 01 Dec 2022 - Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q61

In a right-angled triangle PQR, right-angled at Q, the length of the side PR is 17 units, length of the base QR is 8 units, and length of the side PQ is 15 units. If ∠RPQ = α, then sinα + cosα is:

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 2. i.e.  2317\frac{23}{17}.

PR = 17

PQ = 15

RQ = 8

∠RPQ=α\angle RPQ = \alpha

So,

sinα =817= \frac{8}{17}

cosα =1517= \frac{15}{17}

So,

sinα + cosα =817+1517= \frac{8}{17}+\frac{15}{17}

sinα + cosα =2317 = \frac{23}{17}
