If , (x2+1x2)=18(x^2 + \frac{1}{x^2}) = 18 and x > 0, what is the value of (x3+1x3)?(x^3 + \frac{1}{x^3})?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e.  345\sqrt{5}

Given that

(x2+1x2)=18(x^2 + \frac{1}{x^2}) = 18

Adding 2 to both sides we get

(x+1xx+\frac{1}{x})2 = 20

⇒ x+1xx+\frac{1}{x} = √20

Cubing both sides we get

(x+1xx+\frac{1}{x})3 = (√20)3

⇒ x3 + (1x\frac{1}{x})3 + 3(x+1xx+\frac{1}{x}) = 20√20

⇒ (x3+1x3)(x^3 + \frac{1}{x^3}) = 20√20 - 3√20 = 17√20 = 34√5.
