A car travels the first 160 km at a speed of 64 km/h and the next 160 km at a speed of 80 km/hr What is the average speed for the first 320 km of the tour?

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 71.11 km/h.

Given that

160 km is covered at 64 km/h and the rest 160 km is covered at 80 km/h

Speed = distancetime\frac{distance}{time}

Time taken to cover first 160 km = 16064=2.5\frac{160}{64} = 2.5 hours

Time taken to cover the second 160 km = 16080=2\frac{160}{80} = 2  hours

Average speed = total distancetotal time\frac{total\ distance}{total\ time} = 3204.5\frac{320}{4.5} = 71.11 km/h
