SSC CGL - 24 July 2023 - Shift 2 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q60

If (x+1x)=22(x+\frac{1}{x})=2\sqrt{2}, what is the value of (x6+1x6)?(x^6+\frac{1}{x^6})?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 198.

(x+1x)=22(x+\frac{1}{x})=2\sqrt{2}

⇒ x2+1x2=8−2=6x^2 + \frac{1}{x^2} = 8 - 2 = 6

 Cube both sides of the equation:

⇒ (x2+1x2)3=63\left(x^2 + \frac{1}{x^2}\right)^3 = 6^3

⇒ x6+1x6=216−18=198x^6 + \frac{1}{x^6} = 216 - 18 = 198
