If the original price of a watch is Rs. 500 and it is increased by 10%, then decreased by 15%, what is the final price?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. Rs. 467.50.

Increase the price by 10%:

 Original price = Rs. 500

Increase = 10% of 500 = (10100×500=50)( \frac{10}{100} \times 500 = 50 )

New price after the increase = Rs. 500 + Rs. 50 = Rs. 550

Decrease the price by 15%.

New price = Rs. 550

Decrease = 15% of 550 = (15100×550=82.5)( \frac{15}{100} \times 550 = 82.5 )

Final price after the decrease = Rs. 550 - Rs. 82.5 = Rs. 467.5
