 If the five-digit number 235xy is divisible by 3, 7 and 11, then what is the value of (x - y)?

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 4.

For divisibility by 3, Sum = 2 + 3 + 5 + x + y = 10 + x + y

Possible sums divisible by 3: 12, 15, 18, 21

x + y could be 2, 5, 8, or 11

For divisibility by 11: Alternating sum = 2 - 3 + 5 - x + y = 4 - x + y

If x = 6 and y = 2 then 4 - x + y = 0

Also, x + y = 8

For divisibility by 7: 23562 ÷ 7 = 3366 → Divisible

Now, x - y = 6 - 2 = 4
