If sin2 θ - cos2θ - 3sinθ + 2 = 0, 0° < θ < 90°, then what is te value of 1 + secθ + tanθ?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 1 +3\sqrt{3}

Concept Used :

1. sin2θ + cos2θ = 1

2. sin 300 = 1/2

3. sec 300 = 2\3\sqrt{3}

4. tan 300 = 1/3\sqrt{3}

Solution :

⇒ sin2 θ - cos2θ - 3sinθ + 2 = 0              (cos2θ = 1 - sin2θ)

⇒ sin2 θ - (1 - sin2θ) - 3sinθ + 2 = 0

⇒ 2sin2 θ - 3sinθ + 1 = 0

⇒ 2sin2 θ - 2sinθ - sinθ + 1 = 0

⇒ 2sinθ(sinθ - 1) - 1(sinθ - 1) = 0

⇒(2sinθ -1)(sinθ -1) = 0

⇒ sinθ = 1/2 , 1

⇒ θ = 300     (θ cannot be 900)

Now, the required value is 1 + secθ + tanθ = 1 + sec 300 + tan 300

⇒ 1 +  2\3\sqrt{3}  +  1/3\sqrt{3}

⇒ (3 + 3\sqrt{3} )/3\sqrt{3}

⇒ 1 + 3\sqrt{3}
