If Arun’s salary was decreased by 50% and subsequently increased by 50%, then how much percent did he lose?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 25%.

Let Arun's salary be 100x.

According to the question;

Arun's salary is first reduced by 50%,

Arun's salary after reduction = 100x×50100100x \times {50 \over 100} = 50x

Now, Arun's salary is increased by 50%,

Arun's salary after increement = 50x×15010050x \times {150 \over 100} = 75x

Thr reduction in the overall salary = 100x - 75x = 25x

Required percentage = 25x100x×100{25x \over 100x} \times 100 = 25%

Hence the percentage of salary he lost is 25%.
