If △ABC, ∠B=90º, AB = 8 cm and BC = 15 cm. D is a point on BC such that AD bisects ∠A. The length (in cm) of BD is:

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 4.8

Here, BD/DC = AB/AC

By Pythagoras Theorem

AB2 + BC2 = AC2

⇒ 82 + 152 = AC2

⇒ AC = √289 = 17 cm

∵ BD/DC = AB/AC

⇒ BD/DC = 8/17

⇒ BD + DC = 8 + 17 = 25

⇒ BD = 15 cm × 8/25

 BD = 4.8 cm
